Interesting Charts
Surprising strength to the FOMC announcement! Most of the
action occurred during Federal Reserve Chairman Janet
Yellen’s press conference. Her comments provided assurance to
the bond and stock markets that the Federal Reserve will stay
its current course of monetary expansion.
· Both the S&P 500 Index and the Dow Jones Industrial
Average closed at a record high
· Long term Treasury prices advanced.
· Interest sensitive equities and related ETF led the equity
market on the upside. Utility SPDRs and Consumer Staples
SPDRs broke to an all-time high.
· The VIX plunged.
Fertilizer stocks continued to move higher.
Technical Action by Individual Equities
Yesterday
Technical action by S&P 500 stocks was bullish yesterday.
Eighteen S&P 500 stocks broke resistance and two stocks
broke support. Stocks breaking on the upside were dominated
by seven utility stocks and four financial services stocks.
Four TSX 60 stocks broke resistance (Blackberry, Silver
Wheaton, Goldcorp, ManuLife).
