The Golden Years
by Michael Batnick, The Irrelevant Investor
āIāve been there for all the golden years and I can tell you they werenāt golden at the timeā ā Lorne Michaels
This was Lorne Michaelās response to Marc Maron when asked about the golden years of Saturday Night Live. How is it possible that he missed this with legends like Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, and Dan Aykroyd? Because itās in our DNA- we often fail to recognize how great the now is. To kick the can of happiness down the road is what keeps us going.
At age:
10- We think things will be better when Iām an adult.
15- Ā We think things will be better when I get my license.
17- We think things will be better when I go to college.
21- We think things will be better when I get my first job.
25- We think things will be better when I get promoted.
27- We think things will be better when I get married.
30- We think things will be better when I buy a house.
32- We think things will be better when I have kids.
35- We think things will be better when I make partner.
40- We think things will be better when I get a bigger house.
45- We think things will be better when my kids go to college.
50- We think things will be better when my kids move out.
55- We think things will be better when I retire.
60- We think things will be better when I have grandchildren.
ā¦ā¦
Having something to look forward to is great, but taking time to enjoy the journey is better. Life is short, the golden years are now.
