Second chart of the day also focuses on the history of previous US equity bull markets, comparing it to the current one which started on 09th of March 2009. Referring to the chart above, current bull market has more then tripled in value since it has started.

Historically speaking, whenever a bull market doubles, it is considered about average. To be precise, history shows that a gain of 131% is in line with the average, mainly due to short lived bull markets throughout the 1950s to 1970s.

The current bull market is forth strongest in gains over the last eight decades, falling behind the 1950s and 1980s booms by between 20 to 40 additional percentage points (when measured from the lows). Finally, one bull market that stands above all is the roaring 90s, where US equities quadrupled in value.
